The Origin of WHELM

The concept of Whelm stemmed from my ongoing battle with Generalized Anxiety Disorder - Having struggled with it for most of my life, I knew that I wanted to incorporate it into my Final Line collection at Seattle Central College and take that concept of anxiety that I normally consider negative and a hinderance and spin it into something positive and creative. In my personal experience, anxiety makes me feel very small. My concept is to create designs that were oversized to make the wearer feel quite literally small, but also in doing so to give them presence, allow them to take up space, and lend confidence with the use of volume, structure, and bold color.
